SEO basics for small businesses — what actually moves the needle
You do not need a huge budget to rank. Get the fundamentals right and you will out-perform most competitors in your city.
Small businesses often think SEO is a mysterious dark art. It is not. Ninety percent of the wins come from a short list of fundamentals.
The fundamentals
- One clear topic per page. One page per service, one page per location, one page per product category.
- Real titles and meta descriptions. Not "Home" and "Welcome to our site".
- Content people actually search for. Use the words your customers use, not your internal jargon.
- A single H1 per page, with logical H2s below it.
- Alt text on every image. It helps search engines and accessibility tools.
- A sitemap and clean URLs.
/services/webshop, not?p=42. - Google Business Profile if you are local. Free, huge impact.
- Reviews. Ask happy customers. They almost always say yes.
What not to waste money on
Bought backlinks, keyword stuffing, endless "SEO audits" that never turn into changes. If someone promises page-one Google in a week, walk away.
All websites I build ship SEO-ready — see the services — and I can also audit an existing site if you already have one. Feel free to get in touch to start.
